The minimum coverage mandated by the State is never enough to cover actual costs when an accident occurs. It is therefore important to ask for higher coverage because bodily injury and property damage will be the single largest expense if you are involved in an accident. If you live in a state where no fault liability is the law, then a personal injury protection coverage is required. Other coverage policies offered by the automobile insurance company will give you added protection when you are involved in a motor accident. Collision insurance is for damages to your car after a collision and comprehensive insurance is for cases where the accident is caused by vandalism or natural forces like falling trees or floods. You can skip buying collision and comprehensive insurance if your car is an old model.
